Te Oro reflection

Te Oro

Lately in extension we have been getting into groups and re-writing song lyrics to songs.

We had been working on our songs for a few weeks, before Mrs Langitupu gave us a surprise. She then told us that we would be going down to Te Oro Music and Arts center in Glen Innes, for the next two Mondays to record our songs and also to get a bit of a insight in how to use Garageband. Also  to teach us how to make beats.

That morning when I woke up I thought it would be a great day, I thought it would be sunny. Funnily enough it wasn’t... I arrived to school and it was pretty cold. It was partially cloudy, but it didn’t look like it was going to rain. Once everyone arrived in the Creative Space we packed the cameras and tripods, then hopped into Mr J’s van.

Once we got down to Te Oro I was so excited I hadn’t been to Te Oro before so I was just very bubbly inside.

We got into the computer and got straight into it and started learning about beats in songs and how many beats are usually in songs. I was pretty interested in what Marcus and Dave were teaching us about. Now whenever I hear a song I always try to see if I can hear the background beats.
Our next session at Te Oro the next week on Monday we started recording our songs. To be honest that session wasn’t very exciting! It took really long for the first group to start recording. The guys were just taking random groups, ok there were 4 groups but he wasn’t taking the ones that were finished. Well the one that was finished. A group of boys did a remake of Six60 White Lines, it was really catchy.

Once we finished the lesson everyone was waiting for my group to finish. We didn’t get any recording due to the fact that we too shy to sing infront of eachother. So when we walked out to the hallway the Six60 group quickly ran into the studio and tried to do a quick recording. It didn’t work out very well, (If anyone from Te Oro is reading this sorry) But I think it was just a waste of time the last session.

But I did enjoy going down to G.I. and having the chance to see Te Oro for the first time. I especially liked learning about beats in songs.
