A very inspirational talk.( As always, leave a comment! )

Last week in the year 7 and 8 block we had 3 very inspirational people come in and give 3 very inspirational speeches. Those men's names were. Andrew Patterson, Louis 'Latty' Gordon and Marcus Winter (AKA The Sand Man)

Andrew spoke out first. Andrew is a friend of Mr Burt. He kicked off his speech by starting of with a little bit about how many people he "owns"  Well I bet you're wondering, "He owns people!" Well yes, kind of. Andrew says that he finds people and asks them about their career's their hobbies and what inspires them things like that. He told us that he had recently gone through his book that he keeps all of his people's names in and records about them. He then said that he had 2.000 people in his book! Can you believe that! He has just been going through his life talking to people and helping them get higher in life, and then BOOM! 2.000 people for one man right there. Anyway, enough with BOOM BAM WHAT! Stuff back to the important stuff.

The next speaker was Marcus Winter, he is also known as the Sand Man. If you don't really know why he's called the Sand Man? Then watch this video and you may just realize why he has the name the Sand Man. Oh and I need you to watch the video before you read the rest of this post. Click here to watch Marcus Winter doing his magic! .... Well if you have just watched the video I may continue. As Marcus was uttering away to us he then mentioned about when he first started his career. I listened very closely to the next part.

He told us that he started busking with his Sand art at Otara Markets. People would just stop and stare at him while he worked. Brushing sand side to side, up and down on his board. Then Andrew came into the picture. Andrew came across Marcus at a Otara Market, or on Queen Street ( not to sure? ) Then Andrew took Marcus under his wing and took him under his wing to get him other places with his Art.

After Marcus had finished his speech the it was time for Louis's speech. However this speech was just about what he does for a living. He told us that he had once made an app for basketball games. He explained to us how it works but, not to sound mean or anything but... I wasn't really intrigued by what he was talking about. I'm not a really big sports fan so yeah. But I did listen to what he was saying I didn't zone out or anything.

Now we come to the end. We then sang Wairua Tapu. Which is one of our Himene's. After all I really enjoyed all of the speeches. They made me realize that if you stick your dreams you should just keep on believing  in yourself.

This is a presentation on a book that I have recently read. Here are 5 facts that I've found in the book. ( As always, leave a comment! )

Ok now this is my real letter that I've been doing for Literacy. But this time my letter is to William Stowers.

Hello there William, my name is Alexis.

I am glad to hear that you are out of danger and that you are safe. It’s good to know that you are being well taken care of by the nurses at the hospital that you are in. I hope that your wound heals well and does not become infected and becomes better soon. It will be great if it heals faster and you will be able to possibly go to see your family.

When it is time for you to go back to France I hope that you are going to be fine and no other casualties will be made. Also when it is time to leave you will be remembering your family back home in Tonga, and also your brothers if they do not return. Always wish for the best and never give up hope that you or your brothers will make it back to your family that are waiting for you back in Tonga.

Well now I must end my letter. It’s time to say goodbye. I wish you all the best future and that you make it back home safe and well to your family and so do your brothers. Goodbye William.

This is my Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels presentation

Last week Mr Burt came into the year 7 and 8 block to have a korereo to us about Technology in WW1. Here's a bit about what the talked to us about. Part 2

Another thing that he talked about was the weapons that were used in the war.

As we all know there were huge guns, ships and tanks that were invented for the war. But, did you know that all of that had to do with Technology! Well you probably already knew that, but it's true! All of the huge guns and tanks had to do with Technology.

It all began when England... I think. Brought out this really massive battle ship. Then England was like "Ha, you can't beat us we're gonna crush you!" To Germany. Then Germany fired back, (literally) with an enormous ship that was like twice the size of England's ship. Possibly even bigger It had large guns with launchers and all sorts on it. (Like come on guys, ever heard of painting up on the wall!)

Later on, England came back with a canon launcher.

Kind of like the ones that you see on T.V. When you see the weird guy try to shove the other weird guy into the canon and send him of to America... Except the ones that were used in the war were like 10 times more dangerous then the one that I was talking about. Anyway. Germany thought, "We need to come back with something even BIGGER, so then they did! With a little help with Technology of course. Then it just went on and on with bigger guns and even more, damage done.

But Technology also had its benefits in the war. I'll leave that up to you to find out about, because you never know. You might be surprised at what you find out about.

There you go, that's a bit about what Mr Burt talked to us about last week. So what do you think about Technology in World War 1, was it good or bad? Leave a comment about what you thought about my post.

Last week Mr Burt came into the year 7 and 8 block to have a korereo to us about Technology in WW1. Here's a bit about what he talked to us about. Part 1

Technology in World War 1, was it Good or Bad? Mr Burt came in to talk to the year 7 and 8's about Technology in WW1. Mr Burt started by telling us a little bit about his grand father that was in the war. He told us some more about his background in the war and then he started talking to us about.... Dun da, Da!!! Technolgy, in WW1!

His first presentation was about bikes. No he didn't talk about motor bikes or BMX. He was talking about the first bikes like now but when they were plane, when they didn't have breaks and no gears. He told us that his grand father was one of the first bunch of people that were able to have one of those bikes. He then started to explain to us about the features of the bike. Then I thought, "The features of that bike? Why is he talking to us about that. There's nothing much to a bike!" Then literally just that second i thought that, he began to rattle of a few things of the bike that actually took me by surprise!
He said that the bikes back in those days didn't have breaks, so when you wanted to stop your bike you had to drag your feet to stop it. Here is a picture of the kind of bike he was talking about.

This is my second try of my letter to Gustav Guttenbeil. I planned before I started this letter, so I think that this letter is better than the first one. Leave a comment to tell me what you think about my writing.

Letter to Gustav Guttenbeil:
  1. Greetings to Gustav.
Introduce myself to him.
What I am doing writing to him.
     2.   Tell him about the video, well his letter.
I am so very sorry that had happened to him.
He should have been allowed to go back to Tonga and go back to his family
     3.  The conditions he was living in.
     4.   Explain what I would do for him, if I were alive back in that time.
What I would have provided for him.
I would help him back on his feet and help him get back to Tonga.
One question.

Dear Gustav Guttenbeil…
Malo e lelei Gustav. My name is Alexis. Recently I have watched a video about the letter that you wrote to the New Zealand Government asking if you can be sent back to Tonga, as you had been interned to New Zealand. Here is the link to that video if you are interested, Gustav Guttenbeil letter to NZ Government. I am writing to you because I would like to talk to you and talk to you about back when you got interned into New Zealand.

When I watched the video it had someone reenacting what it was like while you were writing the letter. (Well if you had watched the video before this paragraph you would have an understanding of what I am talking about right now.) I would like to say that I am so very sorry that you got interned  to New Zealand, and had to leave behind your wife and the rest of your family back in Tonga. You should have been allowed back into Tonga when you didn’t need to be in New Zealand. Again I would like to say that I’m sorry that you had to be living in those not so very well conditions. I don’t think that you should have been brought here either. I am not saying, (oh he should not of come here because he’s German. Or. He’s not fighting for us he should leave.) Nothing like that, but I mean because you’d be making a big decision to leave your happy life in Tonga.
The conditions. I would have hated to be in the conditions that you were in, no warmth, no food and no proper hygiene. If  I were alive back then I would have brought you food and put a good roof over your head food on the table and a nice warm bed for you to sleep in. I would pick you back up and get you back on your feet. I would help you out, and buy you new clothes. Then best of all, I would help you go back to Tonga.

Gustav, I have to come to an end in my letter. I hope that you are now well and that you are living a happy life with the rest of your family, I hope that we can talk again.

Yours Sincerely,

Alexis Hubbard

Dear Gustav Guttenbeil…

Malo e lelei Gustav. My name is Alexis. Recently I have heard the letter that you wrote to the New Zealand Government. Back when you were interned to New Zealand many years ago.

I would like to say that I am so very sorry that you got interned into New Zealand leaving all  of your family behind in Tonga. I am also sorry that you had to live in cold and not very well conditions. If I got brought to New Zealand from another country I would want to be well looked after, living in great conditions and my health would be well. But I do understand that you wouldv'\e wanted that too, but it may not have been like that back in those days with the war going on.

I do have a question though, did you know that you were going to get interned?  Or did you just hop on the boat not knowing that you were heading for New Zealand.

Either way you shouldn’t have been interned when your whole life was back in Tonga. I am sorry if this letter may possibly bring back some bad memories from that time but I would just really like to talk to you about what had happened back then.

Did you ever think that you wouldn’t get back to Tonga? Did you ever give up hope that you may never get back to Tonga?  Because whatever happens, in life...  Never give up hope!

Yours Sincerely,

Alexis Ashby
